Senior Consultant + Manager of Marketing and Communications

Are you a strategic thinker who thrives at the intersection of storytelling and problem-solving? Do you love crafting compelling narratives just as much as you enjoy guiding clients through complex challenges? Fathom is hiring a hybrid consultant to lead our marketing and communications efforts while also contributing directly to client-facing work. This is a unique opportunity to shape how we show up in the marketplace and how we deliver to our clients.

What this Role Looks Like

This hybrid role blends two dynamic areas of responsibility: leading Fathom’s marketing and communications strategy and contributing to client-facing consulting work. We’re looking for someone who is equally energized by writing a thought leadership piece as they are by facilitating a client workshop. You’ll be part of a collaborative team that values curiosity, creativity, and clarity — and you’ll help us grow our voice and our impact.

Consulting

As a consultant, you will:

  • Lead and participate in a wide variety of human-centered research activities, including discovery interviews, user research, and synthesis of qualitative insights.
  • Translate research findings into strategic recommendations, using narrative-driven presentations and storytelling to guide client decision-making.
  • Shape the design of solutions and deliverables — whether digital interfaces, services, experiences, or operational processes — ensuring they are intuitive, effective, and aligned with client needs.
  • Collaborate with cross-functional teams to prototype and test ideas, iterating based on feedback and evolving requirements.
  • Facilitate collaborative workshops and working sessions with clients to uncover needs, align on goals, and co-create solutions.
  • Manage client engagements from kickoff to delivery, including project planning, coordination, and communication across internal and external teams.
  • Serve as a trusted advisor to clients, helping them navigate change and make informed decisions through thoughtful facilitation and strategic guidance.
  • Contribute to the firm’s intellectual capital by documenting approaches, sharing learnings, and supporting internal knowledge-building efforts.

Marketing and Communications

As a leader of the firm’s marketing and communications efforts, you will:

  • Develop approaches to grow our marketplace awareness, tell our story, deepen credibility with existing clients, and connect with potential clients.
  • Manage our brand strategy, ensuring our positioning, visual expression, and key messages effectively describe who Fathom is, speak to our value, and resonate with our audiences.
  • Plan and write key communications, including case studies, blog posts, thought leadership pieces, and social media posts.
  • Develop and drive a marketing strategy, promoting our services through event planning, paid advertising, or other efforts.
  • Collaborate with firm leaders to support business development efforts, such as developing capabilities presentations, case studies, or other sales tools and collateral.
  • Identify and oversee external marketing, communications, and PR partners, as needed.

Overall

As a Fathom team member, you will:

  • Be encouraged and given the freedom to explore new areas of interest, techniques, and approaches to deliver ever-higher levels of consulting service to clients.
  • Be supported to participate in local professional organizations, societies, networking groups, and board service.
  • Bring your own unique perspectives and strengths to our team.

Relevant Experience and Mindset

The experience and values listed below are only guidelines for who we think might succeed in this role. If you have personal and professional experiences not listed below but that you think make you a great candidate, let us know! We want to hear from you.

We’re looking for someone with a unique blend of consulting and marketing experience — someone who’s excited to shape strategy, lead change, and tell compelling stories. The qualifications below are meant to guide, not limit. If your background doesn’t match every bullet but you feel your experience is aligned with the role, we’d love to hear from you.

You have experience in:

  • Developing, executing, or advising on B2B marketing and communications strategies.
  • Planning and conducting qualitative research with customers, users, employees, or community members.
  • Planning and delivering business strategies using methods like strategic facilitation, human-centered design, change management, and organizational development.
  • Designing and leading workshops, managing stakeholders, and driving cross-functional initiatives from concept to implementation.
  • Communicating complex ideas clearly across visual, written, and verbal formats.
  • Leading client meetings, identifying and scoping tasks within a project, and communicating about timeline and scope impacts.
  • Working with senior executives and navigating a range of industries — from startups to Fortune 500s.
  • Producing deliverables in a consulting or agency environment, ideally with exposure to healthcare or medical technology.

You are comfortable with:

  • Bringing clarity to ambiguous or fast-changing situations.
  • Working independently or collaboratively, whether as an individual contributor or project lead.
  • Operating in a self-directed, deliverable-driven environment.
  • Building relationships with colleagues, clients, and communities — especially within and beyond the Twin Cities.
  • Listening openly, embracing feedback, and promoting diversity, equity, and inclusion.
  • Traveling occasionally (~10%) for client meetings, research, or design efforts.
