Earlier this year, Fathom Consulting reached out to our network for a pulse check. Were the rumbles of uncertainty about what’s next in their industries true? Overwhelmingly, the answer was yes. The inputs teams once used to guide decisions felt unreliable, and it was stifling their ability to move forward with confidence.
This uncertainty isn’t new. We continue to see our world rapidly shift and change in ways that create disruption. However, we’ve observed that the teams that thrive aren’t those waiting for stability to return, but those that have learned to make decisions within uncertainty. They rely on human input to uncover what’s really happening, identify blind spots, and make decisions that stick.
Our upcoming series of blog posts on decision-making grew from that insight, and from ideas that CEO and Managing Principal Kate McRoberts recently shared on The Human Connection Podcast. Kate acknowledged that involving people in decision-making during uncertainty involves structure, repetition, and intention.
“Engaging people is easier said than done,” Kate explains. “It’s an ongoing process of listening deeply, learning together, and building understanding over time. Done well, it helps leaders de-risk decisions by grounding them in real human experience.”
This three-part blog series explores how a human-centered approach transforms decisions from uncertain to confident. Over the next several weeks we’ll cover:
- Setting the stage for input: How to create spaces where people feel safe, present, and heard.
- From input to action: How to help teams move from open dialogue to decisions everyone understands.
- Communicating decisions with confidence: How to share decisions in ways that build understanding, alignment, and trust.
Whether you’re guiding a strategic shift, aligning a cross-functional team, or helping employees navigate change, human input offers clarity. In this series, we’ll share practical ways to strengthen your teams and make decisions with confidence.
